DAMASCUS Presidential advisor, MP and Secretary General of the International Conference for Support for the Palestine Ali-Akbar Mohtashamipour discussed with the Deputy Secretary General of Syria's Baath Party Abdullah al-Ahmar the latest development in the region.

Mohtashamipour and Al-Ahmar debated on the Palestinian anti-Israeli movement of Intifada and the Israeli massacre of the Palestinian people as well as the Palestinian legitimate rights.

The two sides exchanged views on how they could provide support for the Palestinian people.

The Iranian and Syrian officials also called for the Arab and Muslim countries to help the Palestinians liberate their occupied lands from the Israeli control and to form an independent state with the holy Qods as its capital.

The conference is slated to be held next May in Tehran under Iran's auspices in the presence of number of the speakers of parliaments and cultural and political personalities of the Muslim countries.

Mohtashamipour also met the Syrian National Parliament Speaker, Abdul-Qadir al-Qodura Saturday.

Mohtashamipour extended the Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mahdi Karrubi's invitation to his Syrian counterpart to attend an international conference to support Intifada, scheduled to be held in Tehran on April 28, 2001.

President Khatami's political advisor arrived in Damascus Friday evening at the head of a political delegation left for Beirut for similar purposes yesterday. (IRNA)
